Eye on the prize

Many people want lots and more.

While those words seem small and unoriginal, they are loaded. What is more? What is lots?

Money? Things? Success? Power? Authority?

Maybe. But you’ll drive yourself into the ground trying. It’s a never ending battle and when you get a taste, it’s never enough. You’re eternally wanting, never content or awake to the gifts you’ve already been blessed with.

While my dreams are big and my aspirations wide, I keep my eye on the prize and it’s very simple.

  • A family I have time to enjoy and be present for the little moments
  • A career that I’m passionate about and makes me giddy, each morning
  • and a home by the water, with a porch that I can have my morning coffee on and write.
The photo above is a 10 minute walk along the water, from my house. Below it, is my favourite beach. This is my future. I will live there one day! When I feel overwhelmed, stress or am loosing focus, I come to that beach and sit. By the time I leave, I’m calm, content and remember my heart’s true desires.

I don’t need millions to look after my family. I don’t need to be  famous in my career to know I’m worth something. And I don’t need a mansion or a boat. A shack on the water would be just dandy.

This is not about demeaning efforts or setting the bar too low. It’s about recognizing why we do what we do and for what.

Those three things are the answer to my “Why.” And God willing, I’ll forever keep sight of that.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.” James 13:1

For a long time I felt unnoticed and longed for community- to find “my people.” You are it! Please know your presence here means something to me, so don’t be a stranger. I read every comment both on the blog and on social media and do my absolute best to respond to every one!
